Screen time is the amount of time that we spend using a device with a screen such as smartphone, computers, television or video games.

" Positives of screen time "
  • Students can research about their school work.
  • Video games can improve their skills.
  • Kids can have fun by playing videos games , internet tool and texting.

                        "Negatives of screen time"
  • The screen of many devices are causing a crises of sleep deprivation for all age groups.
  • It can cause obesity, insomina, mood swings and even problems at school.
  • Sleep disturbances: looking at screens continuously can disturb sleep.
Q: what does too much screen time do to                      children's brains?
A: Child behavioural expert Dr. Jennifer cross                   explains why screen time should be limited                   for kids and why some screens are better                       than others. Nearly half of all children 8 and             under have their own tablet device and       spend an average of about 2.25 hours a day on digital screens, according to common sense media.

Early data from a landmark National Institute's of Health (NIH) study that began in 2018 indicates that children who spent more than two hours a day on screen time activities scored lower on languages and thinking tests and some children with more than seven hours a day of screen time experienced thinning of the brain related to critical thinking and reasoning.

"Tips for parents to limit screen time for kids"

1. Co- watch whenever possible. If children are going to have screen time, the best thing you can do is to watch the show or game with them to help them understand what they are seeing. Comment on things you notice ask questions about what is happening, if someone  on a show is singing a song, sing along with your child. Engage with them and repeat concept's after the show is over so they are more likely to retain that information.

2. Choose media wisely.  Look to organizations like common sense media for reviews about age appropriate apps, games and programs to guide you in making the best choices for your children.

3.Limit your own phone use. Kids will do what they see their parents doing. At a young age, their parents is the most important person in their life, so they will model whatever behaviour they are seeing. If they see that you are behind a screen all day everyday then they'll see that it is acceptable and will want to do the same.

"Conclusion"

In conclusion, limiting screen time for children at these at theses early ages is very important because it helps to keep them healthy, to prevent obesity, and to set up good habits as they get older. Do not allow your child to have a television in his or her bedroom.
